There are a variety of ways that employers can enjoy the mutual benefits of partnering with Seattle Jobs Initiative. To view current SJI employer partners, click here.
Hire a Graduate – When you hire an SJI graduate, you get a well-screened employee who is prepared and eager to go to work in a full-time position. Also, you get a grateful and motivated employee contributing to your business team.
Host an Externship – This aspect of our program is one that sets it apart from other work skills training programs. Students in SJI’s Medical Business Information Technology Program participate in a 5-week externship with an area healthcare organization, including local medical facilities, insurance companies or medical claims organizations. Students work at externship sites for 4 days each week during those 5 weeks, typically Monday – Thursday for 32 hours each week.
By hosting an extern, you and your staff gain assistance with entry-level projects and tasks at your workplace, and recruitment and screening is taken care of up front. When you partner with SJI by hosting an extern, you become an integral part of a student’s future success. Many SJI partners have shared that collaborating with SJI has offered them the best of both worlds in recruitment and selection.
Upon commencement of an externship, supervisors have had a month and a half to shape an extern’s performance on the job and to consider their fit for your organization. Many managers have referred to this as a several-week-long interview. At the conclusion of the externship, you get the first opportunity to hire a sought-after SJI graduate. Whether you hire an extern or not, you gain enormous satisfaction in knowing that you have contributed significantly to a family’s self-sufficiency!
