| Frequently Asked Questions |
 |
Below, we answer many of the most common questions we receive from individuals who are interested in participating in SJI’s program. Please contact one of our partner community-based organizations for additional information .
Q: What is required of me if I participate?
A: You need to be motivated and committed to obtaining employment, and to be able to demonstrate that by arriving to all appointments, meetings and classes on time. We ask that you are honest with us during the application process, and let us know if you have any issues that may prevent full-time, permanent employment, so we can help you make appropriate choices.
Q: How long is SJI's training?
A: The Office Occupations training is 22 weeks long. The Manufacturing training is completed in 14 weeks. The Automotive training is 22 weeks long. The Construction Pre-Apprenticeship training is completed within 12 to 24 weeks.
Q: Does SJI have any other training that is shorter or that has a different schedule?
A: Our office, manufacturing, automotive and construction classes have set lengths of time and schedules. Some individuals may qualify for our specialized training programs, which are shorter and more specific. These courses may include health unit coordinator certification, electronics assembly, and forklift certification. Please call one of our community-based organizations for more information.
Q: Does SJI's training program cost me anything?
A: No out-of-pocket expenses will be incurred by eligible participants. However, depending on your income level, you may need to apply for financial aid and other funding. The community-based organizations help each individual work out their financial aid situation during training.
Q: Are the classes that I would be taking through SJI transferable to an AA program at SVI or at another community college?
A: No, our classes focus on preparing people for full-time, permanent work, and do not count towards any other programs.
Q: If I enter SJI's program, will I be guaranteed a job in the end?
A: SJI makes every effort to create opportunities for each student, and we have a great track record: to date, we have placed more than 5,500 of our participants in jobs. Students learn job search techniques, including how to create a great resume and tips for a successful job interview. While SJI does not guarantee anyone a job, we do provide coaching support and help you focus your career search. |
