Seattle Jobs Initiative works in partnership with local community-based organizations and community colleges to provide Sector Cohort Training programs and the Career Pathways program.
Sector Cohort Training
Seattle Jobs Initiative’s primary short-term training programs are currently Medical Business Information Technology (MBIT) and Welding. These cohort* programs provide participants with a solid foundation of skills needed to attain employment following graduation, and include job search and placement support. Please read below for more information about each program.
Medical Business Information Technology
Students train to work in administrative positions specifically within health care organizations, where they will answer phones, work with patient records, schedule appointments, provide customer service, enter data, and/or perform basic accounting and coding for a medical setting and in database applications. Students learn computer programs such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook and Medisoft. The program also includes a 5-week internship experience in a health care office setting. Participants receive critical training in performance skills, resume writing, job search and interview skills, and learn how to thrive in a medical or health care office environment. Skills learned in this training program are applicable to general office positions in a variety of industries as well.
Welding

Students train to work in an industrial setting where they will weld, work on machinery, perform precision measurement and other general duties surrounding manufacturing and production. The students will learn basic math skills and blueprint reading, and upon graduation will be well-versed in basic welding techniques.
Career Pathways Program
The Career Pathways Program provides assistance to participants who would like to begin an occupational training program at a community or technical college. Program participants work through one of SJI's partner community-based organizations to enroll in one of four industry-specific training programs at a local community college, including: Automotive, Business and Information Technology, Healthcare, and Manufacturing/Welding.
