Connecting Great Employers with Talented Workers
Sector partnerships bring together employers, public partners, higher education, and communities to address complex workforce challenges. Seattle Jobs Initiative supports four sector partnerships in Washington state: healthcare, maritime, advanced manufacturing and construction, and clean energy technologies. SJI also supports sector partnerships nationwide through our partnership with the Next Generation Sector Partnerships Community of Practice.
Regional Sector Partnerships SJI supports as a Convener or Consultant
Healthcare Industry Leadership Table
SJI, in partnership with the Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County, convenes hospitals, community clinics, behavioral health providers, colleges, and community partners to address local healthcare workforce challenges. Centered on equity, HILT tackles complex challenges, including connecting more youth of color to healthcare careers, addressing the increasing demand for behavioral health services, and advancing registered Apprenticeships in healthcare.
Career Connect Washington Maritime Sector Intermediary Project
Partnering with the Northwest Center of Excellence for Marine Manufacturing and Technology, SJI supports convening maritime employers, labor partners, community organizations, colleges, and the K-12 system to increase awareness and access to maritime career pathways. Emerging clean energy technologies such as offshore wind and electric-powered vessels are transforming an industry responsible for 1 in 20 jobs in Washington State.
Native Infrastructure Careers and Education Partnership
Led by the United Indians of All Tribes, the NICE sector partnership aims to systemically support native and indigenous learners to start and advance in the transportation sector. Engineers designing the expansion of light rail, electricians maintaining EV charging infrastructure, and technology specialists supporting green technologies are some pathways the partnership is designing.
Aerospace & Manufacturing Sectoral Partnership
Partnering with the Machinists Institute, ANEW, Association of Washington Business Institute, and the NW Center of Excellence for Marine Manufacturing & Technology, SJI is working across sectors to create opportunities for workers from underinvested communities. This partnership aims to open career pathway opportunities in construction, advanced manufacturing, and maritime through multiple pre-apprenticeship pathways leading to quality jobs and Registered Apprenticeship opportunities.
National Coaching and Technical Assistance
In partnership with the Institute for Networked Communities, SJI provides coaching and support for Sector Partnerships across the United States. We apply what we have learned at the local level and share best practices and tools to start, grow, and engage in effective sector partnerships.
One of our projects was providing webinars for the California Workforce Association on actionable strategies centered on equity in sector partnerships. View the webinar slides here.
