IHAP Graduate 2024: Lindsey
I never thought I would be where I am today, starting my new position as a Nursing Assistant at Providence Swedish Medical Center. My journey has been anything but easy. For years, I struggled with addictions that ultimately led to homelessness with my two kids. Living day to day without purpose or hope for the future. But deep down, I always had a passion for helping people, especially those who needed care. I just didn’t know how to turn my life around or how to pursue that passion. That’s when I came across the IHAP (Introduction to Healthcare Employment and Apprenticeships Program), and everything began to change.
IHAP not only provided me with the training I needed to pursue a career in healthcare, but it also gave me the confidence and direction that had been missing. The program offered me a clear path and the support I needed to overcome my past, and it gave me a second chance to follow my dreams. Benjamin, my Case Manager, was caring and patient, showing me that I was capable of learning new things and achieving more. He also made the classes lively and fun. Through hard work and determination, I completed both my IHAP and Nursing Assistant training, and now, I’m able to apply those skills in my new role at Providence Swedish.
I am so thankful to IHAP and Providence Swedish for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. It’s a second chance. Every day, I walk into work with a sense of pride, knowing that I am making a difference in people’s lives. My journey wasn’t easy, but it has made me stronger. From my former jobs as a gas station attendant to a cashier to now a nursing assistant, I am honored to care for patients and help them through their most challenging moments, just as I was helped in mine. Thanks, IHAP.
